SARAH HAHNESTATEMENT One of our strongest perceptions of reality is the feeling that we are a solid permanant self. But if we take a closer look at our selves we can see that all of this reality is composed of parts that are assembled. The body’s component parts are most easily seen, especially when there is illness or accident. But our feelings, perceptions, memories, and ideas are also component parts. We definitely exist, we are real, but not quite as solidly as it seems. becoming Another feature of perceived reality is the persistent notion that it won’t end. But in reality everything that is alive is subject to the end of that narrative. Observing closely we can see that as we form our selves, we are also unformed by natural forces, even as we resist that inevitablilty. Everything living is subject to illness, old age, and death, in other words, we un-become. Hopefully not until after a long and healthy life though! un-becoming
